New Report Shows Prevalence, Deaths and Costs Rising

The Alzheimer’s Association’s 2018 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report was released on March 20th. This annual report provides the latest statistics and trends on America’s 6th leading cause of death. Keith Fargo, Director of Scientific Programs and Outreach for the Alzheimer’s Association discusses the following:
· Alzheimer’s-related costs for families and society are $20 billion more than last year.
· Americans living with Alzheimer’s are on the rise over last year
· Deaths due to Alzheimer’s have more than doubled since 2000
· Latest stats regarding 16 million family caregivers, including family involvement and lifetime costs of care
· Estimated numbers of people living with the disease predicted for 2025
· NEW research showing significant cost-savings tied to earlier diagnosis of the disease
· Expert advice on what families and the nation can do to address this growing health crisis
