Fire Safety Week

There is a critical need for fire safety planning and preparation in each home. You would expect that technology has made us all safer, but one shocking fact from research by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) proves otherwise. UL has discovered that because of more synthetic materials, and furniture a fire today spreads seven times faster than in the past. In fact, people have only 3-minutes to escape the average fire compared to 17-minutes, 40 years ago. That’s why UL is promoting the CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE Campaign, to let people know the importance of simply closing a bedroom door. Steve Kerber, Director of the UL Firefighter Safety Research Institute, explains how closing a bedroom door saves precious time and greatly increases chances of surviving a fire.
