Summer is a time for vacations, road trips, and a break from our everyday routines—but the need for blood never takes time off. ❤️ The American Red Cross has declared a national blood emergency after donations dropped to critically low levels this summer, leaving hospitals in need of a steady blood supply for patients every day.
Dr. Courtney Lawrence explains that seasonal travel, school breaks, and busy summer schedules often lead people to put off donating, even though the need remains constant. Blood transfusions help support cancer patients, people living with sickle cell disease, those experiencing childbirth complications, accident victims, and others facing unexpected medical emergencies. In fact, an estimated 30% of people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives.
Right now, the greatest need is for O positive, B negative, and AB plasma donors. If you’re eligible, one appointment could make a lifesaving difference.
