Alzheimer’s Report with Dr. Joanne Pike

Alzheimer’s disease is America’s 6th leading cause of death and affects more than 5 million Americans and more than 16 million family caregivers.

The Alzheimer’s Association 2019 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report provides the latest statistics and trends on Alzheimer’s disease .

Highlighting the 2019 report is the use of brief cognitive assessments to identify memory and thinking problems in seniors during routine visits with their physicians. Specifically, the report reveals these assessments are being underutilized, resulting in missed opportunities to identify Alzheimer’s and other dementias earlier in the disease process.

Joanne Pike, Dr.P.H., chief program officer at the Alzheimer’s Association, shares key findings from the report, including results from a nationwide survey of seniors and primary care physicians, and offers simple tips to ensure seniors get timely cognitive assessments during their next physician visit.
