Spring Drinks with Theo Rutherford from Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits

Just in time for Spring, world-renowned drinks expert Theo Rutherford helps you knock off the wintertime doldrums and create exciting ways to celebrate. He’s got some great tips, including how to use your freezer, to create the perfect pairings and beverages.


Redemption Rye Classic Highball with an orange twist ice spear
  • 2 parts Redemption Rye
  • Soda water
  • 2 dashes Orange bitters
  • Garnish: Orange slice
  • Pour Redemption Rye over ice in a Highball glass.
  • Add 2 dashes orange bitters.
  • Top with soda water to fill and garnish with orange slice.
Glassware: Highball
Ice: Orange Twist in Ice Spear
Cocktail: Gray Whale Gin White Negroni
  • 1.5 part Gray Whale Gin
  • 0.75 part Lillet
  • 0.75 part Cocchi Americano, Dolin Blanc, or Carpano Bianco
  • Garnish: lemon twist
  • Stir all ingredients with ice for 20 seconds, strain into a rocks glass with a large cube.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist.

Ice: Large Cube
Cocktail: Bib & Tucker The Winning Hand
  • 1.5 oz Bib & Tucker 6-Year-Old Bourbon
  • 0.5 oz Campari
  • 0.5 oz Dry Vermouth
  • 1 barspoon Walnut Liqueur
  • Garnish: Expressed Orange Peel
  • Stir all ingredients together in a mixing glass filled with ice.
  • Strain into a Rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  • Garnish with an expressed orange peel.
Glassware: Rocks glass
Ice: Large ice cube
Cocktail: Cantera Negra Reposada Tequila Tommy’s Margarita
  • 2oz Cantera Negra Reposado Tequila
  • 1oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 0.5oz Agave Nectar
  • Garnish: Fresh Lime Wheel and Black Lava/Rock Salt
  • Jalapeno Ice
  • Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  • Shake vigorously.
  • Strain over ice in a half salt (Note: must be black lava/rock salt) rimmed rocks glass and garnish.
