Value of Water
Many Americans take water for granted every day. But imagine no water to drink, or even to make coffee with. No water to shower, flush the toilet, or do laundry. Hospitals would close without water. Firefighters couldn’t put out fires and farmers couldn’t water their crops.
Some Americans already know how impossible it is to try to go a day without our most precious resource: Water.
The Value of Water Campaign wants you to Imagine a Day Without Water, to engage the public and about how water infrastructure is essential, invaluable, and needs investment.
Water is essential: it nourishes us, cleans us and sustains us. We rely on water for critical services, such as manufacturing, energy production and transportation.Just one day without water service in the United States would put $43.5 billion of economic activity at risk. In just eight days, a national water service stoppage would put nearly 2 million jobs in jeopardy.
According to a poll released by the Value of Water Campaign earlier this year, Americans from coast to coast and of every political persuasion think lawmakers need to prioritize investment in infrastructure – and specifically water infrastructure. Every year, millions of Americans do have to live without water service, either because of a disruption from a natural disaster or because they live in an area without reliable water infrastructure and service.Imagine a Day Without Water is a day to ask the public to educate themselves about our water systems and demand action from leaders so no American has to live a day without water again.
